Let me paint a picture of who I am and the journey I have undertaken with my business through a story of resilience and breaking down barriers to unleash my potential. Take note, I am highlighting one significant scenario, though there were numerous milestones leading up to this pivotal moment.
During my entire adult life, I have been challenged with managing chronic diseases due to a compromised immune system. In 2019, my rheumatoid arthritis hit a new low where it was taking away my basic mobility. Walking, going up and down stairs and just getting up from a chair were all daily challenges. I had a knot in my stomach filled with fear and a highly active mind giving me the worst scenarios on what my future was going to look like.
Then, an unexpected source of inspiration appeared – an elderly lady breezed past me with her walker. To this day, I can still see the backside of her red coat.
This event created two choices for me. I could feel sorry for myself and surrender to my worst fears or I could embrace the tenacity of this lady and use it as fuel for my desires.
I chose the latter. I wanted my mobility back, to be pain-free and to feel joy in my life. This was a pivotal moment in igniting my resilience to the next level.
I focused on putting one foot in front of the other, envisioning a day when I could conquer a small ski hill in my community. Each step, no matter how small, contributed to a profound transformation.
On October 22, 2022, I achieved my goal effortlessly and pain-free. I relished the pride and joy of my accomplishment and silently thanked the lady in the red coat, feeling immense gratitude.
This story is woven into the fabric of my company, emphasizing the power of choices in the face of life’s challenges. As humans, we can either move forward or remain stuck. The journey forward will probably not be easy, but the reward will make it all worthwhile.
Today my storyline is quite different. Yes, I still have autoimmune challenges, but guess what? I am walking an average of 5 km a day, I am no longer in pain, and I have a coaching & training career that gives me energy versus taking energy away from me. Some of my learnings about myself have been about how resilient I am and my ability to stare fear in the eye while I pass by it. My future self is becoming my new reality, and it all started with taking one small step at a time.
Do I have an “a-ha” moment? You bet I do! All those small steps added up to a significant transformation. Have faith in what you can do!
